Join the Windeward Bound Trust’s Annual Youth Leadership Challenge

The Windeward Bound Trust, in partnership with Rotary Tasmania and supported by the Migrant Resource Centre of Southern Tasmania, invites youths aged 14–18 from diverse backgrounds to embark on a transformative ten-day voyage aboard the STV Windeward Bound. This unique program fosters leadership, inclusiveness, and community spirit among Tasmanian youths, creating lasting bonds and valuable life skills.

What We Offer:

1. Inclusive Community Building:

• Our program brings together 20 young people: ten local youths who serve as mentors and advocates for community inclusivity, and ten youths from refugee backgrounds who have recently settled in Tasmania. This diversity creates a supportive environment for learning, friendship, and cultural exchange.

2. Personal Growth and Learning:

• Participants gain practical sailing skills and shipboard knowledge while developing essential communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. Beyond maritime education, they explore themes of diversity and empathy, enhancing their global awareness and fostering a sense of community responsibility.

3. Educational Enrichment:

• Practical applications of mathematics, geography, and science come alive as we navigate through Tasmanian waters. Participants engage in hands-on learning, from celestial navigation to studying marine ecosystems.

4. Environmental Stewardship:

• Join us in meaningful environmental conservation efforts, including trawling for microplastics. Learn about marine pollution and its impact firsthand while contributing to scientific research.

5. Dive into History:

Explore Australia and Tasmania's rich maritime history through stories of explorers and traders. The journey offers insights into the evolution of seafaring and its cultural significance.

6. Personal Growth and Community Engagement:

• Our program is a catalyst for personal growth, inspiring participants to develop leadership skills and a sense of responsibility. Many alumni return with a renewed commitment to community service and volunteerism.
